The Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic is a specialised workplace, creator of fundamental directions and priorities of state health policy in the field of public health and bearer of developments in the field of public health in the Slovak Republic, which are in line with EU trends. Its activities are also linked to the European and WHO infectious disease surveillance networks and to international health protection projects of pan-European and global importance.

The Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic is a budgetary organisation of the state with competence for the territory of the Slovak Republic based in Bratislava, which is involved in financial relations with the budget of the Ministry of Health.

The Authority professionally and methodically manages, directs and controls the performance of the state administration in the field of public health carried out by regional public health authorities in the Slovak Republic.

The Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic manages and is responsible for its activities under the responsibility of the Chief Public Health Officer of the Slovak Republic. The Chief Public Health Officer of the SR is appointed and referred to by the Minister of Health of the Slovak Republic by the Head of the Service Office of the Ministry.
